Surreal Digital Wonders from Japan

Who doesn’t love nature? Trees, shrubs, flowers, fresh fragrance and refreshing ions near a waterfall; mesmerizes all of us and inspires our creative soul. Unfortunately, the urban life that we all live today, finds lesser green and more concrete. The climate is warming up and so is our behavior and temperament. Amidst all these, I am trying to find solace in enthralling mixed reality experiences by teamLab, Japan which pioneered creating surreal nature experiments.
TeamLab is an art collective, an interdisciplinary group of creative minds and ultra-technologists, based in Japan. They bring together professionals from various fields of practice in the digital society: artists, programmers, engineers, CG animators, mathematicians, architects, web & print graphic designers and editors. Thier collaborative practices result in a confluence of art, science, technology, and mixed-reality that mimics and recreate a surreal world.
Fortunately, they take their magical experience along, to various cities of the world. I have listed below some examples of what they have done and what to expect from their future shows:

1. teamLab : Au-delà des limites

May 04 – Sep 02, 2018 Grande Halle de La Villette Paris, France

If you are in Paris or traveling to France, this summer, include it in your itinerary. It is an experience to leave you awestruck after all the Jardins that you visit there.

2. An Office Where Animals Live

Although this concept got popular with Nike building and promoting its first LED running track which creates your own avatar against whom you compete, teamLab innovated a similar concept earlier, to bring workspaces closer to nature and appeal to our senses with ‘An Office Where Animals Live’.

3.teamLab Crystal Fireworks

Jan 02 – Mar 04, 2018 MARINA BAY SANDS Singapore

We missed it, at Singapore, one of the favorite exhibition destination for teamLab. Promoting Crystal Fireworks, celebrating Chinese New Year, their message was clear yet subtle that festivals and celebrations can be as exciting and enthralling even without polluting the environment.

Three-dimensional fireworks made of a cumulation of light points can be set off by visitors with their smartphones. After selecting a firework on their smartphone, people can see the firework as a three-dimensional light display composed of hundreds and thousands of light points.

TeamLab aims to explore a new relationship between humans and nature through art. They explore digital technologies to liberate art from the physical and transcend boundaries. They attempt to omit boundary between human and nature; one is in the other and the other in one.

We were wonderstruck to know about their surreal digital experiences and can imagine the same with you. It will always be on top of my itinerary to visit their show, whenever next. If art and technology mesmerize you then I highly recommend reading about this luxury art watch from Germany.
